What is happening to you?
Intimate images are being shared or threatened to be shared
Sharing sexually explicit images without consent is a crime, in Italy and in Switzerland, and manipulated or AI-generated images can be one too. The blame always lies with the person who shares them, never with the person pictured.
How to recognise it
- Someone threatens to publish intimate photos or videos.
- Intimate images attributed to you are circulating, real or fake.
- They ask you for money or other images in exchange for silence.
What to do
- If you fear the images will be published, in Italy you can report it in advance to the Garante Privacy (the Italian data protection authority), which decides within 48 hours.
- Use StopNCII.org: it creates a digital fingerprint of the images on your device, without uploading them, and participating platforms block their spread. Telegram does not take part.
- Ask Google to remove the images from search results.
- File a complaint: in Italy you generally have 6 months.
What to avoid
- Do not pay and do not send more images.
- Do not forward the images to anyone, not even to report them. If they involve minors, report them only to the police.
