What is happening to you?
I or my family are being threatened
When online shaming is not enough, some groups move on to threats: violence against you or your family members, often from foreign or virtual numbers, sometimes with details about your home or habits. Even if they may be a bluff, they must be taken seriously and reported immediately.
How to recognise it
- You receive messages or calls with threats of violence.
- The threats reach your family members or mention where they live.
- The numbers are foreign, change often, or the calls come at odd hours.
What to do
- If there is a concrete danger, call 112 in Italy or 117 in Switzerland straight away.
- File a complaint today: screenshots are enough. In Italy a serious threat can in some cases be prosecuted even without a complaint from you, for example if it is made anonymously.
- Warn the family members involved and agree not to answer unknown numbers and to call each other right away if in doubt.
- Save numbers, times, messages and call logs. On WhatsApp you can silence calls from unknown callers after saving everything.
What to avoid
- Do not reply to the threats and do not try to find out on your own who is behind the number.
- Do not wait until you have “all the evidence” before filing a complaint.
